Writing, rereading, changing your mind: the usual journey

fantasy-novel-second thoughts

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. 🤗 In my last post, I left you with a doubt: after the first reread, the fantasy I just finished seemed to be missing something. Well, I can tell you that, after the second reread—complete with corrections, cuts, additions, and some inevitable second thoughts—now, when I read it, I finally feel more alive. The story seems more compelling, more flowing; in short, compared to the first version, it's almost like a different manuscript. 😋 Now, as I try to distance myself a little, I've entrusted it to a trusted person, an avid reader, for an initial external evaluation. Of course, I already know myself: the next time I read it, I'll still find something to change. Because, as we know, with manuscripts the word "end" is always a bit suspect. 😒 As for the sales of my already published novel, Extraordinarily Parallel Lives, they should have stopped in February, that is, at 14 copies. 🥵 I use the conditional because I'm not sure, but I'm not discouraged. After all the progress I've made, the novel is now there: accessible to everyone, with a click or a visit to your local bookstore. Then I asked myself: what more can I do? And so I decided that, if anyone wants to read the second chapter, they can simply write to me at this email: libri@paololenzi.com. I'd be delighted to send it to them, especially since from there the story begins to take an important turn. 🤓 Lately, as I've already written, I've been using... 😯no, stop right there, you rascals: don't think badly! I was saying that I make use of the work of artificial intelligence. With its help, I created an image more similar to the protagonist of Extraordinarily Parallel Lives. Remember my disappointment with the book cover? 😔 Well, let's just say this little experiment gave me some satisfaction. Another new development is that, again with AI, I corrected the third manuscript of the trilogy, and the result, I must admit, seems decent. But just when I thought I'd closed one door, another one swung open: I had the crazy idea of merging all three manuscripts into a single book. 😮 Yes, I know. Lately, my decisions have been a lot like a roller coaster. I asked AI if it were possible, and the answer was yes. Too bad that, along with the "yes," came a rather hefty amount of work. The idea, you know, didn't entirely convince me for various reasons; But then I said to myself: if I only sell a few copies of a single book, imagine one that readers already know will have two sequels. So here I am, torn. The first step will be to try to combine them. And I already know that, even then, I'll have to tweak a lot. Then, if one day I actually manage to finish the work, I'll reread it calmly to understand how it makes me feel and decide what to do next. For now, my resolutions are these: by the end of July, I'll reread the fantasy for the third time; then, in August, 😎 we'll see where this carousel of ideas, revisions, and second thoughts takes me. For now, goodbye and I'll see you in the next post. Bye bye. 🤗

P.S. The first chapter is already on the blog (you'll find the link below). If you don't receive the email with the second chapter, check your spam folder!
