Characters, someone already has their say

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. 🤗 Today I'm talking to you about the characters in the novel because some friends who have already finished reading it or are more than halfway through have asked me the usual thing: "But how many are there?" After reading a few pages, they don't remember whose sister that lady is, whose son that boy is, and so on. So, first of all, I say thank you, because I enjoy writing, I do it with pleasure, but I'm not a professional and so I still have a lot to learn. However, these evaluations please me because they let me know where I could improve. I also ask other people who want to tell me what's wrong with the novel to write to me at libri@paololenzi.com. For example, I would have liked to include more details of the landscapes where this story takes place, but I know that you can use the names of real regions, cities, and countries; however, you have to be careful not to say nonsense because the reputation of the place and the sensitivity of the inhabitants must be respected. For this novel, I decided not to do so, even though I know that the writing has lost a lot. Clearly, in my mind I know where the characters live, I recognize the church and the shopping center and so on. Anyone who knows me or has read my biography knows this too. I'll tell you in advance that in the stories that have yet to be published there are a lot of people there too: 😒 there are many characters, but some are just written to say, for example, that Alessandro has grandchildren, but then with some of them you only hear other people talking about them. We understand each other, right? 😶 Speaking of characters, I realized that in the protagonists of my writings I put a bit of myself. In this novel, but damn, let me say it once, the title "Extraordinarily Parallel Lives" 😋 it's clear that I put something of myself in Alessandro's personality, because I made him too cool: blond, blue-eyed and muscular, but maybe some resemblance in the little toes is in order. 😁 While the character I had the most fun with is... I can't tell you. I'll leave you with excerpts from a message you'll find inside the novel (the wildest, most annoying, most annoying one, but I would have liked to have it here beside me today). Well, I'd like to say much more, but I can't, because it's nice to get there slowly. I'll open a parenthesis to talk to you again about the book's publication. It's clear: if any of you have received an offer for your manuscript to be published for free, first of all, it's gratifying. Secondly, it's very cheap, and secondly, it means you've written an excellent manuscript. Just because I couldn't get it published for free doesn't mean you shouldn't even consider the contract; But I'd like to tell you not to sign right away, caught up in the excitement of seeing your book published without spending a single cent, because I know how much those pages we wrote cost and how much we care about all that work that has no meaning for other people. 🤓 So I tell you this: take three or five days to reread that contract, ask a family member or a friend for advice, and then, calmly, make the right choice. After all, if that publishing house liked the manuscript, they can wait even ten days. And to those who have already succeeded and those who will succeed, you all have my respect. Now the time has come to say goodbye and I await your emails to find out what's wrong with the novel. I remind you that I've already received and archived the email that said it needed a complete rewrite. 😝 But compliments are also welcome, don't be stingy. 😁 I've surely forgotten to tell you something, so that'll be for the next post. I send you a virtual hug. Bye bye.🤗
